Why You Should Work As An Au Pair
Financial Perks
You are getting paid around $300-$500 a month to hang out with kids and just make sure they’re taken care of. This is probably one of the most chill jobs you can do while traveling. In addition to your pay (which depends on the country), you get free room and board, and the family will likely take you out on family outings and even vacations like mine did.
Cultural Insight
Besides all of the financial perks, you get to have a personal insight into the culture of where you’re living. The family can share with you about the depths of the people’s history. You will have a personal language tutor, someone to recommend the best food, and the best spots to visit.
Family Bond
You might miss your home while traveling but you’ll never get lonely when you have a second family. While living together you will create a strong bond with the family. You will get to know each other, share special moments together, and depend on and trust one another.
How To Find An Au Pair Job:
I used Au Pair World to find my placement. They made it very easy and simple. You just create a profile, set your preferences, and search for a family (they can search for you too). You could also use Work Away to search for an opportunity. The possibilities are endless.
Here’s a picture of me with my Au Pair family in Bangkok, Thailand last year. It was my first ride on a tuk tuk.
